Fla. Parents Outraged After Spanish Teacher Hands Out ‘Privilege’ Form

A Spanish teacher at Monroe Middle School in Tampa Bay, Fla. handed out a form she made that asked students to categorize themselves by their ”Race," "Skin Color," "Religion," "Sex," "Gender," Sexual Orientation," and “Disability.”

The form was titled, “How much privilege do you have?”

Among some of the options were plenty of terms that none of us would have understood when we were young. What 12-year-old have you ever known that understands the liberal lingo of being “cisgender” or “genderqueer?” Some adults don’t even understand what a “pansexual” is.

One female student's mother was especially angered by the portion of the form having to do with “disability.”

“She [the daughter] has ADHD and apparently the teacher said there are some kids in this class that have ADHD, and ADHD is a mental illness, and that's why she circled that. To me ADHD is not a mental disability. It's something she has," said parent Regina Stiles.

Stiles also said that the Spanish teacher has no business asking children about any of the other categories listed on the form.

“Her sexuality and all that has nothing to do with the school,” stated Stiles. “You’re here to teach my child a foreign language – not anything else.”

The Hillsborough County School District has disavowed the form, saying this was a teacher-generated form that was handed out without the principal’s consent.

The teacher has since been pulled from the classroom while the school district investigates the incident.
