Even if you agree with something, you still might disagree in the way that something is implemented. Or, you might have an alternate method for which to implement a version of the previously said thing.

Actor and comedian Faizon Love recently sat down for an interview with YouTuber “djvlad” on Vlad TV and the question of reparations came up. Much to the surprise of many, Love — who has been a notable name for over 20 years now — said that he doesn’t think reparations would work if you just blindly give black people money.

Vlad noted that a committee in California came up with the number $223,000 per person for reparations. That’s when Love chimed in.

“F**k that!” Love responded. “F**k that $223,000. You know what that is? F**k that. That’s some bull — that’s another trick bag. You know why? Cause that money’s gonna go right back to Cadillac, right back to mothaf**kin’ [Mercedes] Benz. F**k that.”

Love followed up what he thinks is a failing formula with what he thinks would actually work.

“You know what it should be?” Love rhetorically asked before giving his advice. “Black people should be tax exempt, cause when you were a slave you were a tax write-off. The taxes were created to fund the Civil War.”

Love is correct in his statement about taxes and the Civil War. According to History.com, “On August 5, 1861, President [Abraham] Lincoln imposes the first federal income tax by signing the Revenue Act.”

Should black people get reparations of any kind, including Love’s suggestion of having them be “tax exempt?” And if you give black people reparations, where does it end? People from all walks of life have been slaves throughout history, or at least their ancestors have.
