Sophie Lewis, author of the new book Full Surrogacy Now: Feminism Against Family, made waves on social media recently when footage from her recent interview with Verso Books circulated in which she admits that abortion IS, in fact, a form of killing.

Calling people who oppose abortion “enemies,” Lewis said, “We tend to say that abortion is indeed very bad, but… luckily it’s not killing. Luckily it’s just a healthcare right.”

Lewis then went on to say:

Abortion is, in my opinion… a form of killing. It is a form of killing that we need to be able to defend.

"I am not interested in where a human life starts to exist," she continued. "I see the forms of making and unmaking each other as sort of continuous processes.”

In the viral clip, Lewis goes on to say, “But looking at the biology of this kind of hemochorial placentation helps me think about the violence that, innocently, a fetus meets out vis a vis a 'gestator.'”

Innocent violence

There is no such thing as innocent violence. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition of violence is “the use of physical force so as to injure, abuse, damage, or destroy.”

Even in cases of rape or incest in which one forces themselves onto another, which account for just above 1% of abortions, the baby does not force itself upon anyone.

Violence requires force. Violence is either justified or unjustified, never innocent.

But what can be expected from someone who doesn’t care when life begins?
