Fed. Appeals Court Throws Out Emoluments Lawsuit Against Trump Filed by 'More Than' 200 Democrats

If there's one thing we know for sure about President Donald Trump, it's that he loves winning. It doesn't matter what endeavor it might be, victory is what Trump enjoys the most.

Trump must be enjoying this week even more than he already has, because the Washington D.C. District Court of Appeals dismissed a lawsuit filed by more than 200 Democrats alleging that "his private business empire was profiting from foreign governments that sought to patronize his hotels, resorts and other properties to build positive relationships with the president," according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

Friday's 12-page decision from the court essentially states that Democrats lack the standing to sue.

"The Members can, and likely will, continue to use their weighty voices to make their case to the American people, their colleagues in the Congress and the President himself, all of whom are free to engage that argument as they see fit,” the decision reads, according to Breitbart. “But we will not—indeed we cannot—participate in this debate. The Constitution permits the Judiciary to speak only in the context of an Article III case or controversy and this lawsuit presents neither."

Basically, congressional Democrats were suing because they didn't want Trump's businesses, which predates his running for office, making money without their approval. Because Trump owns properties in other countries, the lawmakers were worried that the president might use his businesses and hotels for influence with foreign governments.

This isn't the only emoluments lawsuit that's been filed against Trump, as noted by the WSJ, but this dismissal could pave the way for future decisions.
