Talk about a bait-and-switch! An Obama-era fake university set up to catch illegal aliens who were trying to make it seem like they were students in order stay in the U.S. recently reported, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), that “90 more illegal immigrant students have been arrested.
According to the Washington Examiner:
The Department of Homeland Security created a fake Michigan-based college called the University of Farmington that the department marketed to foreign-born students looking to work in technology. The fake university told the students they could be enrolled in their school to get into the United States on student visas and then never attend the school as part of a “pay to stay” scam.
Students who agreed were arrested on visa fraud and deported. Only 10% of the 250 students caught in the sting had to be deported by Customs and Border Protection. The remaining 80% self-deported after being caught. The remaining 10% have their status tied up as they contest their deportation to the Executive Office for Immigration Review, claiming the situation is entrapment.
So the foreign-born “students” knew what they were doing, for the most part. They knew that what they were doing was against U.S. law. If that wasn’t the case, then why did 80 percent of those caught deport themselves?
The “students,” a lot of which came from India, had no idea that the school was fake, but were pretty clear on their own intent to subvert U.S. law in order to stay in the country.
“Their true intent could not be clearer," Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Helms wrote in a sentencing memo this month for [recruiter Prem] Rampeesa, one of the eight recruiters, of the hundreds of students enrolled, according to the Detroit Free Press. "While 'enrolled' at the University, one hundred percent of the foreign citizen students never spent a single second in a classroom. If it were truly about obtaining an education, the University would not have been able to attract anyone, because it had no teachers, classes, or educational services.”
How much more evidence do you need to know that the overwhelming majority of “students” were trying to cheat the system. Think about what Helms wrote for a minute. “One hundred percent of the foreign citizen students never spent a single second in a classroom.”
Okay, need more?
The Detroit Free Press reported last week that “seven of the eight recruiters who were criminally charged for trying to recruit students have pleaded guilty and have been sentenced in Detroit.”
Reportedly, the “undercover operation started in 2015” and the fake school was “incorporated” in January 2016, which you don’t need to be a mathematician to know was under the administration of former president Barack Obama.
Critics of the fake university tactic will cry about having compassion for people that just want the “American dream.” You can have the “American dream,” but you also have to follow the rule of law. Don’t break the law and go about entering the country the right way, and you won’t get deported.
