Authorities say there will be no charges for a Louisiana woman who turned the tables on a sex offender, using his weapon to fatally stab him.

According to officials, 40-year-old Nicholas Tranchant, who has a long list of prior arrests, entered the laundromat last week with a sharp weapon and tried to sexually assault a woman in the building. She fought back, taking his weapon, and stabbing her assailant.

“I want to compliment this brave woman on the courage and strength she showed in fighting back against her attacker and ask for prayers for her continued recovery,” said St. Tamanny Parish Sheriff Randy Smith in a statement.

WWL-TV reports:

Tranchant was first convicted of indecent behavior with juveniles in 2003. He was then convicted of attempted aggravated rape and aggravated burglary in 2008. He was released from jail just two and a half months ago, in December.

According to his last registered address, he lived less than half a mile from the laundromat.

Tranchant died at the hospital from his wounds. The unidentified woman is recovering from injuries that she received in the struggle.

Officials say the woman will not face any charges.
