"This is the state of Florida. If you want to break into someone's home, you should expect to be shot," Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells said during a press conference Friday.

The day after Christmas, a Florida homeowner had two masked invaders enter his home. The homeowner shot one suspect, while the other, an illegal alien, ran away but was quickly located by authorities.

23-year-old Jorge Nestevan Flores-Toledo, from Mexico, died from his gunshot wounds.

The second suspect, Michel Soto-Mella, 39, an illegal immigrant from Chile, was arrested and charged with armed burglary.

The two suspects allegedly pried a window open to get inside the home.

“The homeowner defended himself and his wife,” Wells said.
