Might we be seeing another hat being thrown into the ring for the 2020 presidential election? If we go by what we heard Monday evening, it’s increasingly looking that way.

Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder — or “Your Highness” as he put it himself — joined Stephen Colbert on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Monday night to talk about the last week’s summit between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. While Holder did tell Colbert that he thought Trump’s performance in Helsinki, Finland was nothing short of “collusion,” that’s not the part of the interview that’s garnering the most attention.

Colbert brought up a tweet from White House reporter April Ryan, who tweeted that Holder is “seriously considering throwing his hat into the ring for a 2020 presidential bid.”

In response, Holder first gauged the crowd reaction to the tweet before telling Colbert his intentions.

“I’m thinking about it,” Holder said, “and what I’ve said is that I’d make a determination some time early next year. My focus really now is on 2018, the midterms.”

Holder’s announcement of possible presidential aspirations comes five months after he stated that he would make a decision on a presidential run “by the end of the year.”
