The financier facing federal sex trafficking charges, Jeffrey Epstein, died early Saturday in his New York jail cell in an apparent suicide, according to media reports.
ABC News quoted officials as saying that Epstein died in his Manhattan cell. There was no immediate confirmation on how he died.
The Daily Mail reports that Epstein hanged himself.
Fox News reports the initial call to the jail was for cardiac arrest.
Epstein was being held after he plead not guilty to charges of drug trafficking and allegedly sexually abusing dozens of underage girls.
An FDNY source told Fox News that he was transported out of the prison around 6:30 a.m. and was dead on arrival.
The FBI is investigating his death.
The 66 year old investment banker who is often connected to the Clintons, had been on suicide watch since he was found in his cell three weeks ago after what appeared to be a suicide attempt or a jailhouse assault.
