SpaceX CEO - and soon-to-be Twitter owner - Elon Musk dubbed the Democrat Party "the party of division and hate," saying he'll now support Republicans and expects "political attacks" for switching his vote.

"In the past I voted Democrat, because they were (mostly) the kindness party," Musk tweeted Wednesday. "But they have become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican."

"Now, watch their dirty tricks campaign against me unfold," he added.

Musk's deal to buy Twitter for $54 billion is currently on hold as the Tesla billionaire and the social media company haggle over how many bots are currently on the platform, a detail that could impact the valuation of the company. Since the platform agreed to Musk's offer to purchase the site and take the company private, Musk has tweeted a number of suggested tweaks he'd make to Twitter, and has mocked liberals incensed at his purchasing the company and once again opening up the platform to free speech they find offensive and "hateful."

Musk tweeted earlier Wednesday that "Political attacks on me will escalate dramatically in coming months,"  slamming the "woke mind virus attempting to destroy civilization."
