Ellen DeGeneres Claims There's a Transgender Stingray in 'Finding Dory'

Following the mass social media petitions from fans to #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend and #GiveElsaAGirlfriend, it appears Disney has heard these cries and inserted an LGBT character into a beloved property. According to Finding Dory's star Ellen DeGeneres, the film, set to release Friday, will feature a transgender stingray.

DeGeneres made the announcement in an interview with USA Today. "There's a stingray that's becoming 'sting-Rhonda,' so there's a trans sting in the movie," she said.

Finding Dory had previously been the subject of similar speculation, when some viewers claimed a teaser trailer for the film featured a lesbian couple. DeGeneres neither confirmed nor denied this hypothesis.

"I don't mind the question," the talk show host said when asked about the theory. "I don't know if it's true or not. I don't know if it is, or if she just has a bad, short haircut."

Disney has not shied away from aligning itself with the LGBT community, threatening to boycott filming in Georgia over the state's religious freedom bill in March as well as including a same-sex kiss in an episode of the hit television show "Once Upon a Time." But the name sting-Rhonda seems a little forced, no?
