Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is perhaps the NBA’s foremost authority on saying ridiculous things, but he recently made some comments on Black History Month that were stupid even by his standards.

After the Warriors 123-105 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, Green delivered a convoluted argument as to why he thinks we should do away with the nearly century-old tradition altogether.

“Black History Month, at some point, can we get rid of it?” Green asked out of the blue. “Why do we gotta keep getting the shortest month to celebrate our history? We’ve got governors who want to take our history out of schools … At some point, I’d like to get rid of it. We’re making all these changes in the world, we can’t talk about these people, can’t talk about those people, can’t say this, can’t say that.”

Not only were his comments delivered at an awkward time and in an awkward manner, they’re just flat-out nonsensical.

Black History Month isn’t in February because our government wants to give as little attention to the accomplishments of Black Americans as possible.

On the contrary, in 1926, Carter G. Woodson -- widely regarded as the foremost authority on black history -- picked a week in February to celebrate “Negro History Week.” Woodson chose a stretch of dates that included the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas (the 12th and the 14th, respectively).

In 1976, the whole month was dedicated to celebrating black history -- which is not something that today’s governors are trying to prevent from being taught in school classrooms.

Now, Green could be referring to the number of governors who have tried to ban schools from teaching Critical Race Theory (CRT) over the past few years, which is a good thing. Green has no valid argument to support his claim that this equates to “erasing black history,” since it is revisionist history that teaches everyone to despise America. CRT is really a communist worldview that is modified for our times and should absolutely be banned from schools. Black history is in no danger of disappearing and does not need the special 365-day-a-year treatment Green believes it needs.

Even though everyone knows you’re in for a wild ride when Green gets in front of the mic, some of his comments can be flat-out insufferable.
