Dogs Take To the Polls In the U.K. In One Adorable Tradition

One adorable Election Day tradition was on full display in the U.K. Thursday, when voters showed up to the polls with all manner of furry counterparts.

The hashtag #dogsatpollingstation trended on Twitter as the Conservative Party and the Labour Party battled it out for control of the premiership. And having puppies at polling station seems like a win-win, no matter what happens politically.

Some dogs were just there for the fun, while others could be seen directing voters toward the polls or promoting their patriotic spirit.

Not to be outdone, there were also some hamsters, rabbits and even the odd cat taking part in their owners’ civic duty. Even horses were allowed to come to the polling station, as long as they were tethered outside and secure.

There are some rules on bringing a pup to the polls, including keeping the dog on a leash and ensuring that he or she does not disturb the process. A poll worker is allowed to hold on to the dog while the owner participates in the voting process. Check out some of the four-legged friends who showed up:
