Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is taking out the trash – and by trash we mean a “false narrative”-peddling journalist who made the mistake of mischaracterizing one the governor’s latest legislative bills to his face.
Big mistake buddy.
The left is terrified of losing control of education, so it's doing all it can to discredit Florida's proposed Parental Rights in Education bill by calling it the "Don't Say Gay" bill.
The bill, which is supported by Republican Governor DeSantis and expected to pass in the state senate soon, ”would prevent primary school teachers from talking to their students about gender identity or sexual orientation” according to a piece from The Hill. The bill specifically states, “Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3.” But that's too reasonable for lefty media types.
In a Tuesday event, a reporter used the lefty slang name of the legislation in a question to Gov. DeSantis. The governor wasn't amused.
In a minute-long clip, a reporter mentioned the bill to DeSantis, saying, “what critics have called the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill is on the senate floor.” DeSantis, clearly frustrated by that characterization, shot back, “Does it say that in the bill?”
The journo continued to push, mentioning that DeSantis supports the legislation, though DeSantis kept shoving back. “Does it say that in the Bill?!” he asked aggressively, annoyed that the journo was framing the bill in the left’s terms.
DeSantis went on the offensive, telling the journo, “I’m asking you to tell me what’s in the bill because you are pushing a false narrative! It doesn’t matter what critics are saying!”
The reporter pressed back: “Hold on, it says it bans classroom instruction in sexual identity and gender orientation …” DeSantis interrupted with the crucial point, “For who?!" The reporter stammered as DeSantis schooled him.
“For grades pre-k through 3,” DeSantis clarified. He continued saying, “For five-year-olds, six-year-olds and seven year olds. The idea that you wouldn’t be honest about that and tell people what it honestly says, it’s why people don’t trust people like you.”
Ouch. DeSantis then went in for the kill, adding, “You peddle false narratives and so we disabuse of those narratives.” The audience in attendance applauded.
The governor concluded the beat down: “And we’re gonna make sure that parents are able to send their kid to kindergarten without having some of this stuff injected into their school curriculum.”

But of course the rabid left has run with the criticism that this “Don’t Say Gay Bill" is about hiding the truth of existence of gay people from school kids in general – that the implication is that “LGBTQ people, simply by existing, are a threat to children and must be erased.” That response came from LGBTQ group “Equality Florida” and it’s more melodrama aimed at disarming parents trying to protect their little ones from relentless radical leftism.
