Congressman and Deputy Democratic National Committee Chairman Keith Ellison compared illegal immigrants living in the United States to Jews living in Nazi Germany.

RealClearPolitics reports that while speaking at a “Beyond DACA” event at Minneapolis Community and Technical College on Monday, Ellison compared the plight of the Jews who suffered under the Nazi regime to DACA recipients who are in the United States illegally.

In a video from the event, Ellison can be heard instructing members of the audience to ponder what they would do if they were gentiles living in Nazi Germany. He then says we “might be able to find out what you would do” in that situation, since people allegedly may be called to protect their illegal immigrant neighbors like people sheltered Jews from Nazis:

I'm going to tell you right now, I'm one of them people who believes we should give our neighbors sanctuary. And if you ask yourself, what would I do if I was a gentile in 1941, if my Jewish neighbors were under attack by--by the Nazis? Would I give them sanctuary? You might be about to find out what you would do. Will you pass that moral test or will you fail it? This is the time for people who truly have faith and belief in their hearts to step up and demonstrate.

Despite Ellison drawing references to Jews who live in Nazi Germany, Ellison was once a supporter of the Nation of Islam and a defender of its anti-Jewish leader, Louis Farrakhan. According to a report by a former classmate, Ellison also reportedly believed that Jews wanted to “oppress minorities all over the world.
