The Democratic Party is beginning to own up to their socialist tendencies.

Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez referred to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the winner of the New York’s 14th District primary race and an open socialist, as “the future” of the Democratic Party.

The comment came during a radio interview with liberal host Bill Press as they were discussing the shocking win from Cortez over longtime congressional Democrat Joe Crowley.

“What’s this tell you about where the Democratic Party is going today?” Press asked.

“Well, my daughters — I have 3 kids, two of whom are daughters, one just graduated college, one is in college, and they were both texting me about their excitement over Alexandria because, you know, she really represents the future of our party,” Perez answered.

This admittance from an influential DNC chairman that a socialist candidate is “the future” of the Democratic Party shows a contrast from the typical denial of socialism from “establishment” Democrats such as Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, and Nancy Pelosi.

As scary as it sounds, Perez may be right. The New York primary race could very well represent a shift in the Democratic party away from “establishment” Democrats like Joe Crowley and toward more “progressive,” socialist candidates like Cortez.

Compared to what potentially lies ahead, Nancy Pelosi could appear to be a moderate Democrat — and Republicans may even miss her in 10 years.
