Disney CEO Bob Iger responded to a question Thursday about the anti-Christian statements of The View's hosts, Joy Behar and Sonny Hostin.
At a Disney shareholders meeting, Iger was asked about the anti-Christian comments Behar made on the February 13th episode of "The View," the questioner noting that "in response, the shows advertisers have come under pressure to sever ties with the anti-Christian bigots."
"First of all, Joy Behar apologized to Vice President Pence directly," Iger said. "She made a call to him and apologized - which I thought was absolutely appropriate. I happen to take exception to what she said. I don't think it was right, and I'm glad to hear that she apologized."
Why is the apology only directed to Pence? Behar disparaged millions of Americans Christians with her comments.
"I don’t know that I want my vice president, um — speaking in tongues and having Jesus speak to him," Hostin said last month.
"It’s one thing to talk to Jesus,” Behar said during the episode in question. “It’s another thing when Jesus talks to you. That’s called mental illness, if I’m not correct, hearing voices."
Tens of thousands of outraged Christians called into ABC's offices as well as the offices of The View's advertisers as part of the Conservatives Strike Back campaign by the Media Research Center.
In February, Media Research Center President Brent Bozell asked for an apology from the hosts and from ABC. In a public letter to ABC President James Goldston, Bozell wrote:
But now you, Mr. Goldston, have the opportunity to right this wrong. Apologize on behalf of ABC. Require Ms. Hostin and Ms. Behar as individuals to apologize. Bigotry against any group is hateful and ugly. Unfortunately, anti-Christian bigotry seems to be the last acceptable bigotry. A simple unqualified apology will go so far. Our country is so divided right now, why make things worse? By apologizing you have everything to gain and nothing to lose.
Without a public apology the MRC has taken action, calling on conservatives to voice their displeasure, listing The View's advertisers and even bringing the message to stop supporting anti-Christian bigotry directly to the streets outside their corporate offices.
