Detroit Democrats are apparently very upset at Michigan State Rep. Karen Whitsett for giving President Donald Trump credit for suggesting hydroxychloroquine as a method to treat COVID-19, which she had herself.
The 13th Congressional District Democratic Party have written a resolution to be put up for a vote "rebuking" Whitsett for "sticking up for President Donald Trump's response to COVID-19," according to an article tweeted out by 13th District Chairman Jonathan Kinloch and retweeted in a screenshot by Whitsett.
According to the article screenshot in Whitsett's tweet:
Ms. Whitsett (D-Detroit) has thanked the president for touting the drug hydroxychloroquine, primarily used to treat malaria that she took as treatment for the new coronavirus. Ms. Whitsett has since recovered and said she thought the drug saved her life. The drug, however, has been criticized as unproven and causing dangerous, evern lethal, side effects in some patients.
While praising the Mr. Trump, Ms. Whitsett has also criticized Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The resolution the party will vote on Saturday says it admonishes, rebukes and reprimands Ms. Whitsett for her actions.
"State Representative Karen Whitsett has repeatedly and publicly praised the president's delayed and misguided COVID-19 response efforts in contradiction with the scientifically based and action-oriented response from Michigan's duly elected Democratic leadership...endangering the health, safety and welfare of her constituents, the city of Detroit, and the state of Michigan," the resolution says.
The resolution was written by 13th District member Christopher McClain.
