This news will be sure to frustrate those who push an anti-cop campaign in America, along with those who push a narrative of division between black people and law enforcement.

The Dallas Police Department (DPD) said that they have seen a 344-percent increase in applications for police officers following the Dallas police shooting earlier this month.

Reuters reported that the DPD received 467 job applications in the 12 days following the horrific July 7 murdering of five police officers in the downtown Dallas area. The increase was measured by comparing the number of applications against the same time period in June.

I guess the very common sense words of Dallas Police Chief David Brown is beginning to resonate with local residents.

On July 11, Brown said the following:

“We’re hiring. Get off that protest line and put an application in and we’ll put you in your neighborhood and we will help you resolve some of the problems you’re protesting about.”

This report is good news for a police department that was having some trouble finding new recruits.

According to Reuters:

That is an average of 38.9 requests per day to become a police recruit compared with an average of 11.3 submissions a day for 12 days in June.

In recent months, the police department has had to cancel academy classes because there were not enough applicants.

Potential officers in the north Texas region have often opted for departments in fast-growing cities surrounding Dallas where starting pay is typically higher than in Dallas.

It shouldn’t take the kind of tragedy that happened on July 7 to make people want to make their community better and safer, but sometimes it takes a wake-up call in order to foment change.

Instead of constantly feeling the stress of perpetually pushed division we need to take a different approach.

Maybe we need to begin healing by doing things like this:
