NY Governor Andrew Cuomo seems to be blaming Coronavirus victims for their illness.

“If you socially distanced and you wore a mask and you were smart, none of this would be a problem,” Cuomo said during a press conference Wednesday. “If you didn’t eat the cheesecake, you wouldn’t have a weight problem. It’s all self-imposed.”

“Following the rules works,” Cuomo said citing counties that he claims have brought down their COVID-19 numbers. “Brooklyn was an orange zone, is being dropped to a yellow zone. So, the restrictions work - and just to make it very simple, if you socially distanced and you wore a mask and you were smart, none of this would be a problem. It’s all self-imposed.”

Some reports have compared the comments to fat-shaming. Many on social media were quick to criticize Cuomo for the comments.
