Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) had some pretty harsh words for the ayatollah of Iran Friday.

Speaking at the 2015 Values Voters Summit, Cruz bashed President Obama’s recent nuclear deal with Iran, telling a cheering audience that “under no circumstances” should a “nation run by a theocratic ayatollah” be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.

Cruz also fired a verbal shot across the bow at Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, who has been known to tweet prophetic claims of Israel’s destruction along with chants of “death to America,” which he repeatedly refers to as “The Great Satan.”

“If you vote for me, under no circumstance will a nation lead by a theocratic ayatollah who chants ‘death to America,’ under no circumstances will Iran be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons,” Cruz thundered.

“And if the ayatollah doesn’t understand that, we may have to help introduce him to his 72 virgins,” he added said, eliciting more than a few cheers and chuckles from his conservative audience.

Islam teaches that faithful Muslim men will be rewarded with 72 virgins in Paradise after they die.
