Anyone paying attention or are we still worried what CNN thinks about Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-Wyo.) latest “hot take?" Yeah, unfortunately, that’s what I thought. Nothing to see here. Only about 50 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, including a 2-year-old little girl. But, go ahead. Keep worrying about the opinion of people who care not one bit about Americans while crime is rising and people’s rights are being persecuted left and right.

At least six people were murdered and another 42 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. This is way up from the previous weekend, which saw at least five people killed and another 21 wounded.

A 2-year-old girl was struck in the leg when a car pulled up next to the car she was in and began firing indiscriminately. She is reportedly in good condition.

Two Chicago police officers were also shot, but they have since been “treated and released.” The officers shot and wounded the suspect, who is reportedly alive after being shot in the “lower extremities,” according to CPD Supt. David Brown.

Here are the names and ages of those who lost their lives over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times (Note: the Sun-Times didn’t provide individual links for all of the separate shootings):

Unidentified Male, 24

Unidentified Male, 21

Jesus Iniguez, 26

Unidentified Male, 21

Unidentified Male, Age Unknown

Unidentified Male, 32

As for the year-to-date totals for Chicago weekend shootings, 93 people have been murdered and another 477 have been wounded in Chicago in 2021. The Chicago Tribune, which keeps a tracker of all shooting victims in Chicago, is reporting that — as of May 11 — 1,102 people have been shot this year. That number is 226 more than at the same point in 2020, which saw the second most shooting victims in the last 10 years of tracking data.
