The "woke" thing for an animated TV series to do nowadays is to match the race of the actor with that of the character - even if this means replacing white actors who have long portrayed a character in the series.
Take, for instance, The Simpsons. Voice actor Harry Shearer, who'd voiced the character Dr. Hibbert since 1990, was replaced last Monday, by a black actor, since Dr. Hibbert is black.
However, The Simpson's creator Matt Groening disagreed with the move, saying according to the Blaze that he didn’t think such a move was necessary.
"Times change, but I actually didn't have a problem with the way we were doing it. All of our actors play dozens of characters each. It was never designed to exclude anyone," Groening told the BBC.
He also implied that acting talent was more important than matching the race of the actor and character.
"I have a very simple belief about acting. The job of the actor is to play someone who they are not," Groening said.
The Simpsons has also stated that white voice actors would no longer play characters of a different race.
