“Get Woke, Go Broke” posts flooded social media on Friday, after it was announced that Sports Illustrated told all its employees that their jobs were being eliminated.
“The Arena Group alerted all Sports Illustrated staffers on Friday that their positions were being eliminated,” The New York Post reported Friday. “Richard Deitsch, a sports media reporter who left Sports Illustrated for the Athletic, posted on X the email that all employees received.”
“The news was first reported by A.J. Perez of Front Office Sports, who indicated the mass layoff would include Sports Illustrated's entire staff,” Business Insider reports.
Money problems appear to be to blame, as Yahoo! Sports explains:
“In 2019, Sports Illustrated was sold to Authentic Brands Group, which subsequently sold its publishing rights to Arena [The Arena Group]. Arena recently missed a $3.75 million payment that broke the company’s licensing deal, prompting Authentic to revoke the publishing license, per FOS.”
In recent years, Sports Illustrated became a purveyor of the radical left’s woke propaganda, such as publication of covers celebrating obese and transgender athletes, as many social media posters were quick to point out, reacting to news of the layoffs.
