Despite the way they’re stereotyped, surfers have apparently become the latest group to embrace President Donald Trump, at least in Huntington Beach, California.
“In recent years, Huntington Beach has found itself another claim to fame as California’s “Maga Capital” – and Democrat Governor Gavin Newsome’s oppressive regime is a major reason why – The Telegraph reported Monday:
“Much of Huntington Beach’s Republican resurgence has been driven by its surfing community, which locals attribute to Governor Gavin Newsom’s short-lived and fiercely-resisted attempts to close beaches during the Covid pandemic.”
Surfers embrace the president’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement and believe people should be free, not controlled by government, Huntington Beach Surfer/Mayor Pat Burns says:
“You’re at one, just doing your own thing. That’s kind of what Maga is – just let us live.”
Dubbed the “Maga-nificent Seven,” all of the city’s councilmembers are now Republicans. Each has publicly sported red “Make Huntington Beach Great Again” caps.
The MAGA Surfer Movement isn’t just restricted to Huntington Beach, however.
There’s even a “Surfers for Trump” Facebook page, which declares:
“We Love Jesus Christ, Our President Trump And Surfing”
Amazon.com sells a “SURFERS FOR TRUMP” sweatshirt.
Etsy.com offers a “SURFING IN THE USA” tee shirt emblazoned with an image of Pres. Trump catching a wave while wearing a flag-themed surf suit.
