Report Exposes Biden’s False Claim Hur Brought Up Beau’s Death

“More Biden lies!” Media Research Center (MRC) President Brent Bozell said Thursday, reacting to an NBC News report revealing that Biden blasted Special Counsel Robert Hur for bringing up Beau Biden’s death when, in fact, it was the president who broached the subject.

Biden "did not remember, even within several years, when his son Beau died," Hur’s report on Biden’s mishandling of classified documents, released last Thursday, states.

“How in the hell dare he raise that?” Biden said during a nationally-televised press event that evening White House press conference. “Frankly, when I was asked the question, I thought to myself, it wasn’t any of their damn business,” Biden said.

However, an NBC News article published Wednesday cites two sources saying Biden, not Hur, brought up the topic of Beau’s death during the interview, while discussing classified documents found at a Virginia rental home where he and a ghost writer were working on a memoir about his son’s death:

“But Hur never asked that question, according to two people familiar with Hur’s five-hour interview with the president over two days last October. It was the president, not Hur or his team, who first introduced Beau Biden’s death, they said.”

....

“The line of questioning about the memoir was directly relevant to the central issue of the investigation, the people familiar with the interview said. Hur’s team had learned that Biden was recorded in 2017 telling the ghost writer that he ‘found all the classified stuff downstairs,’ at the Virginia rental home where the two were working on the book.”

Hur’s report cites several instances of Biden’s memory failing him during the interview and concludes that the president’s mental decline is the reason that the president shouldn’t be charged for willfully mishandling classified documents.

Biden and supporters have questioned the motive behind the assertions in Hur’s report. But, it’s Biden’s motives that should actually be scrutinized – since he’s fundraised using the debunked claims slurring Hur, Bozell (@BrentBozell) wrote on social media Thursday, linking to NBC’s report:

“More Biden lies! Of course it was Joe Biden, not the special counsel, who brought up his son's death.

“Yet Joe claims he was questioned about it by Hur and then fundraised off it, disgusting.”

As CNN reported on Monday, over the weekend, the Biden campaign used the false claim about Hur to rake in cash through a fundraising appeal:

“A fundraising appeal sent Saturday from first lady Dr. Jill Biden criticizing the special counsel and defending her husband was the second-most lucrative money-raising email since the president’s launch announcement, a source familiar with the figures said.”

….

“In voicing indignation at Hur’s treatment of the matter in his report – and in particular expressing frustration with the special counsel claiming her husband couldn’t remember when their son Beau died – Jill Biden struck upon a potent message for Democrats.”
