A photo of an anti-Israel protester at George Washington University (GWU) carrying a banner reading “Final Solution” has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and further increasing concerns about the anti-Semitic nature of the protests sweeping the nation’s college campuses.

The "Final Solution" was used by Nazis to refer to their genocide of the Jews during the Holocaust.

Since being posted on X.com Thursday afternoon by Zack Kessel, Buckley Fellow at National Review Online, the photo has been viewed nearly 800,000 times and drawn national media attention.

As The National Desk reports:

“A protester at George Washington University invoked a horrific Nazi euphemism Thursday by carrying a sign reading “final solution” while at a protest on campus.

“The phrase refers to a Nazi plan to commit genocide against all Jewish people during World War II. A photo of the individual shared to X shows they also carried a large Palestinian flag.”

The GW Hatchet school paper reports that the person carrying the Nazi slogan does not appear to be a student:

“The man in the photo, who was also photographed by the New York Times during the protest, does not appear to be a student at GW. He was one of the hundreds of people who attended the protest at GW’s campus on Thursday, dozens of whom were members of the public who brought homemade signs with them. The Hatchet was unable to confirm who the man in the photo is.”
