Nearly nine of ten illegal aliens encounter are released into the U.S., DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas told Border Patrol agents in a private meeting in Eagle Pass, Texas on Monday.

“Your sources are correct,” the Border Patrol Union confirmed in a social media post replying to a breaking report by Fox News Correspondent Bill Melugin:

Melugin: “BREAKING: Per three Border Patrol sources who were in the room, while meeting privately with agents in Eagle Pass, TX today, DHS Sec. Mayorkas admitted that the current release rate for migrants caught crossing the border illegally is “above 85%”. I’m awaiting comment from DHS.”

Border Patrol Union: “Your sources are correct. During this meeting, Brandon Judd told Mayorkas that Americans have the right to know the facts about what's going on at the border. It was at that point Mayorkas admitted that "over 85%" of the people illegally crossing our border are being released.”

When Mayorkas was pressed by agents about his recent claim that more than seventy percent of illegal aliens are released into the U.S., he confessed that the number is even higher, Fox News reports.

Mayorkas credited “alternatives to detention” for the high percentage:

“‘It would not surprise me at all. I know the data,’ Mayorkas said. ‘And I will tell you that when individuals are released, they are released into immigration enforcement proceedings. They are on alternatives to detention. And we have returned or removed a record number of individuals. We are enforcing the laws that Congress has passed.’

“Fox is told that on Monday agents pushed him on those remarks, saying that the number is even higher than 70%, and then Mayorkas acknowledged a release rate of ‘above 85%.’”

The DHS encountered more than 300,000 border-crossers in December – a record high for any single month.
