Crime isn’t down in the Nation’s Capital – no matter what Mayor Muriel Bowser and local Democrats claim – the D.C. Police Union reports, in support of President Donald Trump’s effort to make the city safer by deploying the National Guard.
Issuing executive orders Monday, Pres. Trump declared a “crime emergency” and called for the D.C. National Guard to police the city.
Trump cited his constitutional authority to send in the National Guard:
“Pursuant to my authority under the Constitution and laws of the United States and the District of Columbia, I direct the Secretary of Defense to mobilize the District of Columbia National Guard and order members to active service, in such numbers as he deems necessary, to address the epidemic of crime in our Nation’s capital.”
Mayor Bowser is claiming that crime is down in D.C. – but, that’s not what the city’s police are experiencing, as the D.C. Police Union noted in multiple social media posts. In one, the police union reposted a recent investigative report on how Mayor Bowser’s crime stats are being faked:
“If you believe ‘crime is down,’ you might want to buckle up for this story where @nbcwashington exposes that MPD has been falsifying crime data. One commander is under investigation for allegedly changing classifications to make it appear crime is down.”
“So, instead of taking a report for a shooting or a stabbing or a carjacking, they will order that officer to take a report for a theft or an injured person to the hospital or a felony assault, which is not the same type of classification,” D.C. Police Union Chairman Gregg Pemberton explained.
“That's preposterous,” Pemberton said. “There's absolutely no way crime could be down 28%. Last year they suggested that it went down 34%.”
“DC is a ‘safe city,’ except you can't attribute your name to your thoughts because it's dangerous...,” the D.C. Police Union wrote Monday, quoting – and calling out the hypocrisy of – a Washington Post article attempting to frame D.C. as a safe city that doesn’t need Trump’s help.
In the same sentence, The Post quotes a residence who claims both that D.C. is “safe” – and that it isn’t:
“‘This is a safe city, but overhearing and witnessing gang threats and then watching camera footage of the thuggery is disturbing,’ said one resident, speaking on the condition of anonymity over concerns of personal safety.”
.@POTUS: "They'll immediately begin massive enforcement operations targeting known gangs, drug dealers and criminal networks to get them the hell off the street." https://t.co/94Z8ptnzaP pic.twitter.com/qqIBU7yKm8
