Pres. Biden is “either lying or misinformed,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said Tuesday, after Biden claimed that he’s exhausted his executive authority to secure the border and needs more “power.”
“Just give me the power!” an angry Biden demanded, when a reporter asked him if he has “done everything you can do with executive authority” to secure the southwest border. “I’ve done all that I can do” without more power, Biden said:
“Just give me the power! I’ve asked from the very day I went in office:
“Give me the border patrol. Give me the people, the judges. Give me the people who can stop this and make it work right.”
President Biden said “I’ve done all I can do” with executive authority to secure the border. That is simply untrue. He’s either lying or misinformed.

But, Biden already has the executive authority he needs to secure the border – if he actually wanted to secure the border – Speaker Johnson responded on social media to Biden’s claim, citing “just a few” of the statutes giving Biden presidential authorities he could use:
“President Biden said ‘I’ve done all I can do’ with executive authority to secure the border. That is simply untrue. He’s either lying or misinformed. Here are just a few of the authorities at his disposal – if only he would use them:
• Presidential Authority to Restrict Entry 212(f)
• Expedited Removal 235(b)(1)
• Discretionary Detention Authority 236(a)
• Mandatory Detention 236(c)”
No more excuses,” Speaker Johnson concludes.
