The social media mafia — and the internet in general — can badger, harass and defame other people they disagree with all they want.
Those who are strong in their beliefs and convictions don’t pay those people any mind, and will, more times than not, refuse to buckle under such manufactured pressure. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is one of those people.
Prescott was asked on Sunday whether the blowback from him reaffirming his position to stand for the national anthem has changed his mind or made him waver in any way.
“I made my statements. I stand by what I said," Prescott said. "Some people may have misunderstood or whatever, but I know what I said, and I feel strongly about what I said. It is what it is.”
“It is what it is.” That is the most perfect reductive response to the internet haters who have to bash other people because of how miserable their own lives are.
Here's video of Prescott's comments:
Prescott was in hot water on social media and with other players and celebrities for his July comments on what he thought about the anthem controversy.
“I never protest during the anthem, and I don't think that's the time or the venue to do so,” Prescott said, among other comments which you can see here.
The backlash Prescott received were some of the most actually racist responses one could receive for uncontroversial comments. Cries of “Uncle Tom” and “sell-out” were among the more subdued responses to Prescott’s comments, and calling a black man “Uncle Tom” is no laughing matter.
Case in point:
Prescott wasn’t even saying that people should stop taking up “social injustice” issues. He feels that the anthem protests proved their point, but it’s now time for actual actions instead of just rhetoric that gets people nowhere.
“I think we've proved and we know that there's social injustice,” Prescott also said in July. “So I'm for taking a next step that whatever that step may be for action, and not just kneeling.”
The online mob can spew their nonsense to their heart’s desire. But, they’ll never have the same backbone Prescott has exhibited by standing by comments. Eat your hearts out, trolls.
