We all knew Bud Light sales were circling the drain. Now, it seems they may have finally gone down the pipe - at least at one major retailer.
Twitter users took to social media this week with photos from their local Costco stores purportedly showing the wholesale retailer awarding America’s once-favorite beer with their “black star of death,” a commonly known indicator that the store doesn’t plan on ordering more of the product once their current stock runs out.

Pictures posted by several different users showed the little black star - show in the upper right-hand corner of the store price tag - on both 36-packs and 24-packs of Bud Light. One photo showed twin 12-packs of Bud Light Platinum being listed for just $14.97.

It’s not clear whether Costco is nixing Bud Light entirely, or if the “death star” treatment is only being applied to certain can sizes or larger cases of beer. But one thing’s for sure: Bud Light sales don’t appear to have turned around in the wake of the brand’s disastrous partnership with trans TikToker Dylan Mulvaney back in May - an arrangement that went south so quickly, Mulvaney announced on social media he’s temporarily fled the United States and is consulting with Peruvian shamans to get over the stress of being publicly criticized for impersonating a girl.
Meanwhile, Bud Light sales plummeted 28.5% ahead of July 4, the biggest beer holiday of the year, and now appears to have begun dragging sister brands like Michelob Ultra and Busch Light along with it. So regardless of whether Costco has finally slapped the death star on its unsold packs of Bud Light, it certainly looks like consumers have.
