An indigenous transsexual person in Canada is pursuing medically assisted suicide as an alternative to long-term pain and suffering from sex change surgery.

Lois Cardinal, a female-identifying biological male, underwent surgery in 2009 to transform his penis into a “neo-vagina,” but is now seeking euthanasia to put an end to the chronic pain and discomfort he has felt as a result of the operation. However, it appears Cardinal’s first application to Canada’s MAiD (medical assistance in dying) was rejected as doctors say there are still other treatment options to alleviate the pain. Cardinal posted photos of the denied application on social media and called the situation a “human rights concern.”

“I’m in constant discomfort and pain…It’s taking this psychological burden on me. If I’m not able to access proper medical care, I don’t want to continue to do this,” Cardinal said.

Cardinal also said that the “resources” for alternative options referenced in the files were nonexistent and that his only treatment he was given is a numbing cream that doesn’t work. Cardinal told the Daily Mail that the medical system is prioritizing “gender ideologies'” over actual care for their patients.

“I’m not getting any better and nor am I experiencing better medical care, or any medical care,” Cardinal said. “It’s so captured by gender ideologies, that they care more about my pronouns.”

Cardinal has spoken out several times on social media in opposition to radical LGBT ideology and the way such trends have been “medicalized,” particularly for children. In a video on social media, Cardinal called out the negative impacts of trans ideology.

“I do not agree with the current rhetoric of the trans community,” Cardinal said on social media. “A lot of the so-called trans hate is fueled by the trans community because we aren’t allowed to have honest and tough conversations.”

Canada’s assisted suicide program is arguably “the world’s most permissive,” according to the Associated Press, allowing for people to be killed with far fewer safeguards to protect disabled people. The country saw an estimated 13,500 assisted suicides through the MAiD program last year, up more than 30 percent from the 10,064 deaths in 2021.
