Maxine Waters Says She Didn't Literally Mean She Would 'Take Trump Out'

On CNN Tuesday morning, California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters attempted to clarify a statement she made last week, when she bizarrely pledged, “I will go and take Trump out tonight” during an LGBT youth gala in New York.

As you can imagine, Waters received backlash from many who interpreted her statement as physical threat against the president.

During a next-day appearance on "Fox and Friends," conservative commentator Lawrence Jones said the congresswoman’s statement carried dangerous implications, especially in light of last summer when gunman James Hodgkinson targeted a Republican baseball practice, leaving House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) with a bullet through his hip. (Scalise has since recovered.)

But others, including Waters herself, claimed the congresswoman was simply referring to impeachment.

"I don't think this President should be representing our country," Waters said Tuesday. "He creates controversy, he cannot get along with our members of Congress, and I'm going to continue my efforts to impeach him."

Hmm. If Waters’ own standard for impeachable offenses includes creating controversy and not getting along with those across the aisle, perhaps she could stand to pass by a mirror before making threats.
