Some people buy their own hype. But when that hype outweighs the actual talent of the subject, hype can only take you so far. Luckily for actress and “comedian” Leslie Jones, the bar is pretty low for big time jobs in Hollywood as long as you’re willing to sell your soul and repeat whatever is “brought to you by Pfizer.”

So apparently, according to an interview with People, Jones said that not only should the new, permanent host of “The Daily Show” be a “black woman,” but that she should be that black woman.

“Now, I'm not s**ting on white women or whatever,” Jones said. “I'm just saying it would be great to have a black woman on late night. It's time. I think people are ready for that.”

Ready for what? It’s 2023. Where are all these people trying to keep black women off television? Seriously, point them out to me. I’ll wait…

Okay, I can’t wait that long — not because I don’t have the patience, which I don’t — but because this secret cabal against black women on TV doesn’t exist. Heck, I’m pretty sure if you’re a white, red-headed lady in a movie or on TV, you’re going to be replaced by a black woman pretty soon.

As far as Jones thinking the role of host should be hers to take on…just read what this genius had to say.

“It was one of those in-the-pocket fits. You know how when you get fitted for a suit, and you're like, 'Yeah, this suit looks nice on me,’” Jones said. “‘Yo, I don't mind wearing this style on me.' 'The Daily Show' was [that].”

Listen, it’s all well and good to want a specific role for yourself if you truly feel you’re the right person for the job. But don’t virtue signal saying anyone from this particular segment of the population should get the job, when you really mean that you’re the person that you’re talking about.

Another case of get over yourself in Hollywood. Oh, and by the way, I liked Jones’ schtick the first time I saw it 25 years ago, when the comedian was named Tracy Morgan.
