Political commentator and former Huffington Post senior politics reporter Laura Bassett fell back on the same boring, predictable left-wing narrative Monday night, telling CNN’s Brian Stelter that freshman New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has quickly become a rising star in the Democratic ranks because she's “threatening white conservative men’s power, and they’re terrified of her."

“What do you think is fueling the constant attacks on Fox against this freshman congresswoman?” Stelter asked – not at all pointedly, of course.

“Well she's got a target on her back because she ticks every box that makes conservative men uncomfortable,” Bassett proclaimed. “She’s a woman, she’s Latina, she’s young, she’s working class, she’s a Millennial, she’s a Democratic socialist – everything that makes people uncomfortable.”

Bassett added that Ocasio-Cortez has “got a lot of power” thanks to her proficient use of social media like Twitter.

“In some ways, she’s sort of the ideal anti-Trump and she is threatening white conservative men’s power, and they’re terrified of her,” Bassett added.

Or, and I'm just spitballing here, it could be because Ocasio-Cortez has got a history of not knowing what she’s talking aboutdoesn’t understand basic economics or governmental structurethinks the world is going to end in the next 12 years thanks to global warming, wants to double top federal income tax brackets to 70 percent, proposes that we do away with private health insurance in exchange for crappy government-run care, thinks being factually correct is irrelevant as long as you’re “morally right,” and has been fact-checked even by left-leaning media outlets like the Washington Post as playing fast and loose with her numbers.

But sure, Bassett. It’s probably just that she’s a tan-skinned female that’s the real rub.
