Clinton: ‘Sorry,' But My Private Emails Didn't Break the Rules

Hillary Clinton has begun issuing apologies for using her personal email address during her time as secretary of state - even though she continues to insist she didn't break any State Dept. rules.

In a Facebook post, Clinton wrote, “I wanted you to hear this directly from me: Yes, I should have used two email addresses, one for personal matters and one for my work at the State Department. Not doing so was a mistake. I'm sorry about it, and I take full responsibility.”

Clinton continued, claiming the use of her personal email address was “allowed under the State Department’s rules,” everyone she “communicated with in the government was aware of it,” and nothing she sent or received was “marked classified at the time”:

“It's important for you to know a few key facts. My use of a personal email account was aboveboard and allowed under the State Department's rules. Everyone I communicated with in government was aware of it. And nothing I ever sent or received was marked classified at the time.

As this process proceeds, I want to be as transparent as possible. That's why I've provided all of my work emails to the government to be released to the public, and why I'll be testifying in public in front of the Benghazi Committee later next month.

I know this is a complex story. I could have—and should have—done a better job answering questions earlier. I'm grateful for your support, and I'm not taking anything for granted.

I understand that you may have more questions, and I am going to work to keep answering them.”

Clinton reiterated her feelings on the matter while speaking on “ABC World News Tonight” with David Muir.

Clinton told Muir, “In retrospect, certainly, as I look back at it now, even though it was allowed, I should have used two accounts: one for personal, one for work-related emails. That was a mistake. I’m sorry about that. I take responsibility and I’m trying to be as transparent as I possibly can, to not only release 55,000 pages of my emails, turn over my server, but I am looking forward—finally—to testifying before Congress, something I have been asking for for nearly a year.”

The Clinton campaign sent out an email last night titled, “My email.”

In the email, Clinton repeated the words from her Facebook post verbatim.

The email sent to supporters and the post on Facebook provide a link to a website for individuals to learn about “Hillary’s emails in 4 sentences.”

According to the website, Clinton “takes responsibility for her decision to use a personal account,” the private email account was allowed by the State Department, all work-related emails were released to the State Department, and nothing sent or received was “marked as classified.”

Although Clinton insists nothing “sent or received was marked as classified,” reviews have found this is not the case.

Previously, Clinton insisted voters do not care about the email scandal. However, polls have showed voters—even Democrats—do not believe Clinton has been telling the truth about her email scandal.
