Hillary Clinton took to Twitter on Wednesday to criticize Donald Trump’s call to ban abortion and punish women who obtain an abortion illegally.
“Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse,” the Democratic presidential frontrunner tweeted out to her followers. “Horrific and telling.”
Her rival Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders also weighed in:
In an interview with MSNBC, Trump said that not only should abortion be banned, there should also be a punishment should a woman undergo the procedure illegally.
“There has to be some form of punishment,” he said.
When asked by MSNBC's Chris Matthews what that punishment would entail, Trump replied, "I don't know."
"It's a very complicated position," he said.
