Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager is calling for presidential debate moderator Lester Holt to challenge Donald Trump so Clinton can spend her time “talking about things she wants to accomplish.”

Monday, on “CBS This Morning,” Clinton Campaign Manager Robby Mook said that Holt, moderator of the first debate between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton, should refute Trump’s “lies” so Clinton can talk about what she wants:

“We’re really focused on this opportunity that Hillary has to speak directly to the voters on the issues,” Mook said in an interview Monday morning. “But we are concerned that Donald Trump may lie, he may throw misinformation out there, and that Hillary will have to spend all of her time trying to correct the record rather than talking about the things she wants to accomplish.”

“All we’re asking is that the record be checked. So, if Donald Trump lies, which he has repeatedly done in the past, that that be simply checked.”

But, as Newsbusters reports, veteran debate moderator Jim Lehrer says it’s not the debate moderator’s job to fact-check Trump:

“No, Absolutely not,” Lehrer declared on Sunday’s “Reliable Sources” on CNN:

“Remember, the debate for 90 minutes, people are going to be seeing the candidates, they’re going to see Donald Trump.” “And, Donald Trump is not going to be able to quote, ‘Get away’ with anything. It’s all going to be there for everybody to see.”
