During Sunday night’s CNN Democratic presidential debate in Flint, Mich., Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton called for Republican Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder to resign for his part in the Flint water crisis.

“I have to tell you, what I heard and what I saw literally shattered me… that children in Flint, Michigan in the United States of America in the year of 2016 are being poisoned,” said Sanders.

“There’s plenty of blame to go around,” he said. “I believe the governor of this state should understand… [he] was irresponsible. He should resign.”

Similarly, Clinton called for Gov. Snyder to either resign or be recalled.

“Well I’ll start by saying Amen to that,” Clinton said, referring to Sanders’ opening remarks. “I agree. The governor should resign or be recalled and we should support the efforts of citizens attempting to achieve that.”

“But that is not enough,” she went on. “The state should also be sending money immediately to help this city. I know the state of Michigan has a rainy day fund for emergencies... It's raining lead in Flint."
