At a Las Vegas exhibition tradeshow on Wednesday, award-winning actor and American Sniper director Clint Eastwood set the record straight about allegations that he once threatened to kill outspoken filmmaker and liberal activist Michael Moore.

“Everybody’s saying I threatened to kill Michael Moore,” Eastwood told an audience at CinemaCon, Variety reported. "That's not true."

He added, after a pause, “It isn’t a bad idea."

The joke was reportedly met with laughter and a round of applause.

Moore had claimed that Eastwood, during the 2005 National Board of Review Awards, had threatened to shoot him. This was after Moore showed up on Charlton Heston's doorstep to grill the National Rifle Assocation (NRA) president on gun control for his film, Bowling for Columbine (2002).

The two became the center of attention during a bout of drama surrounding the American Sniper movie in 2014.
