Cleveland College Students Oppose RNC Law Enforcement Housed on Campus

Just because there is not going to be an episode of "Uncommon Sense" this week doesn’t mean that stupidity also takes a week off.

In what can only be described as head-scratching, the students at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio passed around a petition stating that the university’s decision to house the police officers, riot police and law enforcement agents at the school makes them feel “unsafe.”

The petition was created last month prior to the officers arriving to Cleveland for the Republican National Convention (RNC). The officers from all over the country are at the RNC to provide security and to help existing Cleveland police. The university will house 1,700 police officers and 200 members of the Ohio National Guard.

However, the students decided that their well-being wasn’t taken into account when the university agreed to house the police during the week of the convention. The petition claims that students want there to be a set of restrictions for the officers on campus.

A commenter wrote the following:

I work for the University Housing department at Case Western Reserve University. While I do not speak for our department, I recognize all of these demands as perfectly appropriate and achievable by our staff and staff of the University. Students deserve to feel safe and protected where they live, work, and learn. The presence of RNC riot police should not interfere with that sense of safety.

This is what is wrong with our country. Because of the constant and never-ending indoctrination perpetrated by institutions of higher learning, a growing minority of college students now actually believe that the police are out to “get them.”

But wait! There’s more!

Now, CWRU President Barbara Snyder has apologized twice to students for not thinking about their feelings while the university made its decision to house the officers, and for telling students that they shouldn’t stereotype all police officers.

In essence Snyder is saying that the students can stereotype all they want while the students tell people not to stereotype them. This is hypocrisy of the highest order.

According to Cleveland.com:

Snyder also apologized for her campus-wide email on June 24 urging everyone to not stereotype all police officers as violent or prejudiced.

"Nevertheless, given the current national context, I regret that I described such behavior as 'profiling,' and that I was not more careful with my language," she wrote Monday.

She wrote that officials were planning to take additional steps to enhance campus safety during the convention.

Were stupid pills passed out on this campus, because how much more safe can any place get than to have almost 2,000 officers on the campus? I really hope I’m not the only one that realizes this.

I understand that not all officers are saints, but let me hit you with some logic.

We are constantly told that by the government and media that we shouldn’t stereotype all Muslims because of the actions of a few. Couldn’t we say the same thing to them when it comes to police officers?

These college kids needs to get their heads out of the sand and begin to breathe the fresh air of reality.
