Teen Vogue: Russia, Guns & White Nationalists Are the Biggest Terrorism Threats

Writing for Teen Vogue -- yes, the publication that pushes anal sex for young people -- former CIA analyst Cindy Otis recently explained the major terrorist threat facing America in 2017.

It comes from the Russians, guns, and white supremacists.

“Politicians and the media have long blamed the terrorism threat almost exclusively on Islamic extremists, a failure that ignores the nature of the current threat,” Otis writes. "A recent study found that from 2008 through 2016, right-wing extremists committed nearly twice as many terrorist attacks in the U.S. as Islamic extremists did. Between 1975 and 2015, there were zero attacks committed on U.S. soil by nationals from the seven Muslim-majority countries President Donald Trump targeted earlier this year in travel bans.”

This is a way to avoid mentioning 9/11, which killed nearly 3,000 people and happened prior to the years spanned in the survey. The attackers were mostly Saudis, who fall outside of the seven countries affected by the Trump "travel ban."

Use a window outside of 9/11 for your research and restrict the number of majority-Muslim countries allowed in the survey, and presto! No Islamic terrorism.

The report Otis uses is also questionable. It comes from the liberal website Reveal and was written by David Neiwert, a left-wing journalist. Neiwert is a contributing writer for the Southern Poverty Law Center, which labels any organization to the right of Barack Obama a “hate group.”

Neiwert is the author of the books “Alt-America: The Rise of the Radical Right in the Age of Trump, “ “And Hell Followed With Her: Crossing the Dark Side of the American Border,” “The Eliminationists: How Hate Talk Radicalized the American Right,” “Strawberry Days: How Internment Destroyed a Japanese American Community,” “Death on the Fourth of July: The Story of a Killing, a Trial, and Hate Crime in America.” He is also the co-author of “Over the Cliff: How Obama's Election Drove the American Right Insane.”

Would surprise you to learn he also reports for MSNBC.com?

Using the misleading Reveal report as a springboard, Otis can ride the left's favorite hobby horses against guns, racism, and right-wingers.

“The FBI and other agencies have warned the Trump administration about the growing threat of terrorist attacks from white supremacists,” Otis writes, “but there is little evidence their warning has taken root. At the same time, Republicans have blocked legislation that would have addressed the fact that people can still legally buy guns if the FBI is investigating them for known or suspected involvement in terrorist activities. Last year, a domestic terrorist killed 49 people at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando in the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history — even though he’d been investigated twice by the FBI for terrorist connections.”

Unmentioned by Otis is the fact that Pulse nightclub killer Omar Mateen called himself an “Islamic soldier” and claimed to be acting in the name of ISIS.

“Coupled with Trump’s continued denial of Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election, initiatives like the Muslim travel ban and others demonstrate a lack of appreciation at the highest levels for the range of threats against the U.S.,” Otis claimed.

No matter the facts, or how hard Otis must work to twist her narrative and make her point -- the enemy is, as always: guns, Trump, and right-wing America.
