President Trump on Monday called House Minority Speaker Nancy Pelosi the Republican party’s “secret weapon” in the upcoming midterm elections after she had the nerve to call bonuses and pay raises for the average American as a result of the GOP tax overhaul “crumbs.”

Liberal MSNBC host Chris Matthews argued on "Hardball" Monday night that Republicans are “picking on” the California Democrat because she’s “ethnic."

Yes, he was talking about Nancy Pelosi. And no, we're not joking:

“Picking on somebody from one of the coasts, usually ethnic, and making them the poster person of the Democratic Party is old business for the Republicans,” Matthews said. “They did it with, way back, to some guy from the Bronx back in the 40s, they did it with Bella Abzug from the west side of New York City, they did it to Tip O’Neil, they did it to Teddy, and now they do it after Nancy Pelosi.”

“They take an ethnic sort of person from one of the coasts and make them the banner person,” he continued.

Pelosi is white and was born in the U.S. She's also one of the wealthiest members of Congress.

Pelosi's “ethnic,” insofar as she has some Italian ancestry, but for Matthews to use Republicans mocking her for her comments on tax cuts as an example of them being racist is beyond comprehension. And that’s probably because it makes no sense.
