Chicago Weekend Shootings: At Least 4 Killed, Another 25 Wounded

The cold night weather might have impacted the number of shooting victims in Chicago over the weekend. It really could’ve been worse, even though one victim is too many. With an event-filled Halloween weekend, less than 30 people were victims of shootings. It’s sad that having less than 30 victims could be construed as a positive.

At least four people were killed and another 25 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. The total number of victims is slightly up from the previous weekend, which saw at least six people shot and killed and another 17 wounded.

Here are the names and ages of those that lost their lives over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:

Unidentified Male, 32

Unidentified Male, 18

Kenneth Burks, 56

James Patterson, 32

The year-to-date numbers on weekend shooting victims in Chicago is now up to at least 281 people dead and 1,471 people wounded. The Chicago Tribune shooting tracker, which keeps a weekly count of all Chicago shooting victims regardless of the day of the week, reported that 3,468 have been victims of shootings, as of October 26. That is 1,153 more than the same point in 2019, and the second highest number behind the same point in 2016 (3,596).

Next Monday’s count should be an interesting one to note considering it will be the first weekend after the election. That’s not to say that shootings will necessarily be politically motivated, but criminals do tend to take advantage of particularly turbulent times.
