A 14-year-old was among this past weekend’s shooting victims in Chicago. What’s even more unfortunate is that Antwon Winters was one of seven people who were shot and killed. Three other teenagers were wounded over the weekend, but fortunately haven’t met the same fate as Winters. Is anyone listening? Where’s Black Lives Matter? Where’s Jesse Jackson? Where’s Al Sharpton? Where’s Shaun King? Where’s Barack Obama? Wasn’t Chicago his home for a couple of decades? Much like all the other weekends, all you’ll hear from any of those organizations or “civil rights leaders” is crickets. Shame.

This past weekend saw at least seven people murdered and another 26 wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area. This is a noticeable drop from the previous weekend, which saw at least five people killed and another 48 wounded.

Normally, a 20-person drop in shooting victims would be viewed as a good sign. But as we’ve seen in 2020, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the rises and drops weekend to weekend in Chicago.

Here are the names and ages of those that lost their lives this past weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:

Dantrel Johnson, 27

Rodjzar Funches-Heard, 26

Kent Mitchell, 42

Tynaz Shorter, 22

Aaron Campbell, 30

Ramon Flores Jr., 42

Antwon Winters, 14

The three teens that were wounded in other shootings ranged in age from 15 to 17.

As for the year-to-date numbers on weekend shooting victims, Chicago is now up to at least 271 people dead and 1,429 people wounded. The Chicago Tribune shooting tracker, which keeps a weekly count of all Chicago shooting victims regardless of the day of the week, hasn’t updated their reporting since the previous week. As of that publication (October 11), 3,304 have been victims of shootings. That is 1,120 more than the same point in 2019, and the second highest number behind the same point in 2016 (3,316).

Is anyone listening?
