Well, that didn’t last very long. The downturn in weekend shooting victims in Chicago seems like it was an anomaly, because the Windy City saw a 136 percent increase in victims of shootings this past weekend.

At least six people were murdered and another 46 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. This is up compared to the previous weekend, which saw at least one person die and another 21 suffer wounds as a result of being shot. This is a 136 percent increase in the total number of weekend shooting victims.

Here are the names and ages of those who died in shootings over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:

Unidentified Male, 28

Christan Adams, 30

Devon Wash, 32

Eli Lozada, 21

Guadalupe Lopez, 35

Alexander Fletcher, 28

The year-to-date numbers on weekend shooting victims in Chicago is now up to at least 296 people dead and 1,573 people wounded. The Chicago Tribune shooting tracker, which keeps a weekly count of all Chicago shooting victims regardless of the day of the week, hasn’t changed since they reported that 3,619 people have been victims of shootings, as of November 9. That is 1,231 more than at the same point in 2019, and the second highest number behind the same point in 2016 (3,832).

With an extended holiday weekend almost upon us, let’s hope and pray that people give thanks instead of shoot at one another.
