Chicago Weekend Shooting Victims Down for Second Weekend in a Row - At Least 6 Dead, 17 Wounded

For the second weekend in a row, the number of shooting victims in the city of Chicago has decreased. Still, 23 people were shot over the weekend, which is 23 too many. But when we’re talking about Chicago, when the number of shooting victims goes from 53 two weekends ago to 33 last weekend to 23 this past weekend. While any number of victims is too many, the fact the number of victims has dropped is at the very least encouraging. Let’s hope it’s not just the cooler weather hitting the city that has accounted for the drop.

At least six people were killed and another 17 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. This is down from the previous weekend, which saw at least seven people murdered with another 26 people wounded.

Here are the names of those that lost their lives over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:

Unidentified Male, 25

Unidentified Male, “in his 40s”

Daryl Hampton, 31

Shamar Rice, 30

Deshawn McKinney, 32

Roberto Morales Galindo, 47

As for the year-to-date numbers on weekend shooting victims, Chicago is now up to at least 277 people dead and 1,446 people wounded. The Chicago Tribune shooting tracker, which keeps a weekly count of all Chicago shooting victims regardless of the day of the week, reported that 3,405 have been victims of shootings, as of October. That is 1,146 more than the same point in 2019, and the second highest number behind the same point in 2016 (3,521).
