It is awful enough when adults shoot and kill each other, but it is even more terrifying and tragic when innocent children get caught up in it, which is what happened in Chicago this weekend. Adding to this atrocity, it is not nearly as newsworthy as it ought to be.

In total, 34 people were shot, and a three-year-old named Mateo Zastro was killed while he was with his three siblings and mother. The killer is still at large and it looks like the police are doing their best to find him, requesting the public’s help. According to FOX32, “Tips can be made anonymously to Chicagopolice.org. There’s a $7,000 reward for information leading to charges and a conviction in this case.”

Maybe if the media promoted this more, the gunman would have been arrested by now.

Mateo was not the only child who was shot, as an unidentified 7-year-old was shot in the leg on his way to church. Thankfully he is expected to recover physically and the perpetrator has been apprehended, but that still must be such a traumatic experience.

Both of these shootings of children are suspected to have been caused by petty problems like road rage and theft. Senseless killings. And this wasn’t even a particularly bad weekend in Chicago, despite its strict gun laws..

But that’s life (and death) in a big city run by liberals.

Chicago Police Deputy Chief Larry Snelling poignantly stated, "We've seen children shot across this city in ridiculous numbers. When did we become a society where we stop caring about the children?
