Chicago Out of Control: At Least 27 Dead, 107 Wounded Over Five Day Period

5.4k views

How many will it take? I really want to know. How many shooting victims in Chicago will it take for groups like Black Lives Matter to organize a protest there? Do those lives matter, or do those victims not fit their narrative? How many? 10? 50? 100? Whichever one of those numbers you pick, all of them are applicable since shootings in Chicago are out of control.

On Tuesday alone, at least two people were murdered and another 26 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area. Compound that number with the at least two dead and 20 wounded from Monday, along with the at least 23 dead and 61 wounded over the weekend, and you have a five-day period in which at least 27 people were killed and 107 others were wounded.

How many?

Here are the names of the dead from Monday and Tuesday:

How many?

This past weekend in Chicago was the most violent weekend of 2020 by far.

How many?

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Democratic Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, of course, deflected blame from her office amid talk that authorities neglected Chicago neighborhoods in favor of protecting the downtown area. Lightfoot even went so far as to play the race card to cover for any perceived shortcomings for her response to the violence.

The Sun-Times reported:

The challenge was, it was everywhere. ... We did not stand by to watch the South and West Sides burn, as some have propagated. That is simply not true,” Lightfoot said, calling the suggestion “deeply offensive for me as a black woman and for the superintendent [Chicago Police Department Supt. David Brown] as a black man."

How many?

To put the numbers above in perspective, if you count the total number of shooting victims, the last five days in Chicago would represent the second largest mass shooting in U.S. history if it qualified as a mass shooting. The tragic mass shootings at Virginia Tech in 2012 and at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando in 2016 had more deaths but less total victims than the last five days in Chicago.

One final time I’ll ask: How many?
